More Durable Concrete Structures using Hot Dip Galvanized Reinforcing Steel

The Common Fund for Commodities’: Technology Transfer Workshop - More Durable Concrete Structures using Hot Dip Galvanized Reinforcing Steel was conducted November 6th, 2006 at The Regent Hotel, Singapore.

The Workshop was presented by Dr. Stephen R. Yeomans from the University of New South Wales, Canberra, ACT, Australia.  As a leading authority on corrosion prevention of reinforcing steel by hot dip galvanizing, Dr. Yeomans presented a very informative day long Workshop on the problems of rebar corrosion and how zinc coatings effectively prevent premature rebar corrosion, particularly in aggressive marine conditions.  Extensive laboratory and real-world data was presented.

The Workshop had 18 participants from 5 countries and included a wide cross section of stakeholders from public works departments, engineering consulting companies, reinforcing steel producers, hot dip galvanizers and galvanizing associations, corrosion consultants and zinc companies.  All participants were provided with a booklet containing the presentation slides as well as a 42 page reference document by Dr. Yeomans, extracted from the recently published textbook – Galvanized Steel Reinforcement in Concrete.

Please contact galvrebar@iza.com for more information on this Workshop and how the information presented can be provided to your organization or region.
