Measuring the Coating
Thickness of Hot-Dip Galvanized Rebar
The
most common method for measuring the coating
thickness of hot-dip galvanized steel is by
using magnetic thickness measurements. A
good inspection method is to take
five thickness measurements for each
specimen. The average of the thickness
values taken for each specimen can be
calculated and compared to the appropriate
specification for conformance.
Most world-wide
specifications
contain a table that states the minimum
required thickness depending on the bar
size.
